PL vs AA: Chapter 2 in a nutshell.
Hi Kat! Do you happen to have any tips on coloring? Your drawings are so lovely, you make things look magical. Thanks! Anonymous

Awah, thank you. :D I really like sparkles, as you’ve probably seen. Hmmmm…well, a few months ago I did a breakdown of a picture and it gives a basic idea of how I go about coloring. While on that post, I do have a small tag of process posts and with some step-by-steps of how I did certain pictures (which, if anyone ever wants to see others, I’d be glad to post about; most of my pieces just come about in the same way).

Tips on coloring…hmm…well:

  • Know your light source. It’s a phrase that was pounded into me in college but it’s very important to have one, as the shadows inform not only the shape of your characters, but can give a feeling of where they even if just on a plain background.
  • I’ve shifted over to almost always coloring with one shadow color and one light color (maybe two, but they’ll be of the same or similar hues) rather than having individual colors for each component, since it further informs mood/environment for me. Piers here was mostly purple/blue ‘cause like, “water” and stuff; the deep breath piece is heavy on the purples/yellows, which I remember eyedropping from a promo picture.
  • The real key to my ‘magic’ is

And that’s really about all I can think of. Embrace the rainbow vomit is about the worst advice I can give and yet it’s something I adhere to a lot. If you have any other questions I can try my best to answer! :O

Quick reminder, that we often try to catch up with some super artist that isn’t even real. You know, that one who can do absolutely anything, learnt it within a week, doesn’t need any sleep and is working on like a hundred successful projects at the same time. We’re being all sad and frustrated because we think we’re no good compared to that one super artist. But then, who is?

This is so important! I used to feel really down on myself for not having amazing coloring/shading skills or illustration skills like some of my friends, but that was distracting me from my talent with making cartoons and gag comics! You need to keep your mind free from being chained by what you think you need to be good at, so you can discover where your talents truly lie.

Lots of interesting stuff here. Bullying problem, a death in some kind of room, dangerous driving incidents, falsified evidence, tax raises, people going on rampages.
BUT WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAAAAAAN?
